The Nepal flag is made up of 2 basic triangular shapes and is the only non-rectangular shaped flag.

Paraguay's flag has a different design on each side.

Libya is the only flag made up of just one colour, plain Green.

Switzerland's flag is the direct reverse of the Red Cross Flag and is the only square flag.

Denmark's is the oldest unchanged flag in the world.

The USA flag has changed designs more often than any other country.

The Union Jack of Great Britain features on more country's flags than any other.

The Italian Flag was designed by the Frenchman Napoleon.

The flag of Cyprus is the only one that has the outline of the country on it.

The Union (Jack) flag was created in 1801.

Mrs. Betsy Ross reputedly made the first American flag.

The Blue Peter flag is raised before a ship sets sail.

The Queen's personal flag is known as the Royal Standard.

A Vexillologist is an expert on the history of flags.

The flag's of the Netherlands and Luxembourg are identical.

The Mexican flag features a snake and an eagle.

"Shipwreck" Kelly (1885-1952) was famous for sitting for long periods on top of flag poles and reportedly sat on one particular flag pole for 49 days.

The 50th star on the U.S flag was added on 4th July 1960.

The Union Jack originating in 1801 is made up from the countries of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland and does not include Wales which because of its status as a principality cannot be included on the flag.

In 1194 A.D., Richard I of England introduced the Cross of St. George, a red cross on a white ground, as the National Flag of England.

On 12 April 1606, the National Flags of Scotland and England were united for use at sea, thus making the first Union 'Jack'. Ashore however, the old flags of England and Scotland continued to be used by their respective countries.

Turkmenistan features a carpet on its flag.

Ohio is the only state not to have a rectangular flag.

Texas is also the only state that is allowed to fly its state flag at the same height as the U.S. flag.

Dominica, Mexico, Zambia, Spain, Kiribati, Fiji and Egypt all have birds on their flags.

The Dominican Republic has the only national flag with a bible in it.

Cyprus has a map on it's flag.

The flag of the Philippines is the only national flag that is flown differently during times of peace or war. A portion of the flag is blue, while the other is red. The blue portion is flown on top in time of peace and the red portion is flown in wartime.
